The total value of building permits issued in Canada decreased by $549.4 million (-4.1%) to $12.9 billion in March 2025, reports Statistics Canada. The decrease was led by the non-residential sector (-$716.3 million), which was only slightly tempered by the residential sector (+$166.9 million). The value of non-residential building permits dropped to $4.2 billion in March, marking a 14.5% decline from the previous month.

Jolt has secured a $194-million loan agreement with the Canada Infrastructure Bank that will help the company expand its electric vehicle charging and digital out-of-home (DOOH) network across Canada. Free charging is made possible through revenue generated from advertisers who participate in the DOOH network.

With 278 lithium-ion units now drawing and storing power from Ontario’s grid, the Oneida Energy Storage Project has officially entered commercial operation, becoming the largest battery energy storage facility in operation in Canada, and among the largest globally. “As a first-of-its-kind project in Canada, Oneida charts the path for future storage projects across the country,” said Northland Power president & CEO Christine Healy.

To ensure the safety of its employees, residents, and firefighters, Manitoba Hydro is planning the evacuation of its remaining employees from the Pointe du Bois and Slave Falls generating stations on the Winnipeg River as wildfires threaten to cut off road access to the facilities. Both stations will be left in a safe state with the generating units shut down and water passing through the spillways.

The DALI Alliance and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) are collaborating to advance “the development, adoption, and harmonization of educational initiatives around global lighting standards”. The DALI Alliance is the global industry organization for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface lighting control. Established in 1906, IES is a technical and educational authority on illumination.
