ABB Electrification Canada Inc. has acquired Bel Products Inc., a Canadian manufacturer of custom-built enclosures, housings, panels and accessories, serving sectors such as commercial, industrial, data centre and utilities. Founded in 1964 and headquartered in Montreal, Bel will continue operating from its current manufacturing facility and warehouse in Terrebonne, Que.

The Slow Mill device is a wave energy converter that has successfully completed an offshore test off the coast of Scheveningen, The Hague. The device consists of a floater with blades variably connected to an anchor on the seabed. Waves push the floater up and the blades away from the anchor, extracting energy from both up-and-down (heave) and back-and-forth (surge) wave movements. » Read more

Construction has a safety image problem - from the editor

Skilled worker shortages are worsening, with more contractors struggling to find workers in 2024 than in 2021, according to a recent Dodge Construction Insight Report. Infrastructure projects are currently experiencing the worst shortages, but shortages are expected to expand across all sectors as construction activity picks up.

That said, a large potential workforce does exist. Over 50% of jobseekers aged 14 to 44 surveyed for the Dodge report are receptive to construction careers. While they see them as beneficial to society—offering good pay, and providing career advancement—only 7% are actively considering it.
