Several EV-related industry groups are calling on Ottawa to both maintain the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard (EVAS) and bring back rebate and incentive programs. For one, the Canadian Charging Infrastructure Council, whose members operate numerous public charging sites in Canada, says the EVAS is a critical policy for attracting large-scale private investment in charging infrastructure.

A new forest biomass cogeneration facility aims to significantly reduce diesel as a primary energy source for the Atikamekw of Opitciwan in Northern Quebec. With the help of a $24M loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, Onimiskiw Opitciwan LP will construct and operate the 4.8-MW plant, which will generate electricity by burning bark, sawdust and woodchips produced by an adjacent sawmill.

According to the latest Housing Supply Report from CHMC, growth in total housing starts across seven of Canada’s key Census Metropolitan Areas was flat in the first half of 2025 compared to 2024. Furthermore, the six-month numbers reveal some “sharp regional differences”. Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax built new homes at record or near-record pace; however, the picture is quite different in Canada’s two most expensive housing markets.

As part of a $108.3M financing package, the Canada Infrastructure Bank is making its first Indigenous equity loan in Quebec to support construction of the 102.2-MW Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n 2 Wind Farm (MU2), located in the Gaspesie–Iles-de-la-Madeleine region.
