The Watay Power Transmission Project involved the construction of approximately 1800 kilometres of new transmission lines to connect more than 18,000 people in 16 remote First Nations communities to the provincial grid, ending their reliance on diesel generators.

Up to 670 MW of Indigenous-led wind projects will receive up to $1 billion in federal support via the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) Clean Power priority sector and Indigenous Equity Initiative, as well as Natural Resources Canada’s Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways (SREP) Program.

Planning activities include route mapping and scheduling, identifying the required charging infrastructure, developing step-by-step processes and timelines for electrifying fleets, and conducting climate adaptation and resilience assessments.
