Reduce your A/C load with snow? That’s so Canadian

A University of British Columbia (Okanagan) study—a computer modelling exercise—found directing a building’s air handling units through a snow dump (snow collected and stored from winter road clearing operations) can reduce the need to use air-conditioning during warmer parts of the year.


“Great to see this finally happening” says AEEA of Alberta code updates

“These changes to the building code ensure that the amount of energy used by homeowners and businesses will be permanently reduced, and the savings will continue into the future,” said Minister Shannon Phillips of Alberta’s announcement that it has updated or adopted seven new codes, all of which include energy efficiency improvements.


Motor efficiency standards to benefit from systems approach

Members of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA in the U.S.) Motor & Generator Section and the European Committee of Manufacturers of Electrical Machines & Power Electronics (CEMEP) say they have a “new direction for global motor efficiency standards”.
