Previously a Quebec-only player, SOFIAC announced it will now offer its financial and technical resources for energy efficiency measures in commercial and industrial sector businesses across Canada. Owners of buildings with overall annual energy expenditures of their portfolio totalling over $500,000 will now be able to tap SOFIAC’s solutions.

FortisBC has teamed up with GreenStep Solutions Inc. to provide small- and medium-sized enterprises with free, customized energy advice “to increase awareness of energy-saving behaviors and rebate programs that could help reduce their energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and costs in their operations”.

UBC Okanagan’s $24.98-million Skeena Residence officially received Passive House certification. “Whether in the depths of winter or the blistering Okanagan summer, students often note the building temperature is incredibly stable and they hardly ever need to touch the thermostat,” said Shannon Dunn, UBCO’s director, Campus Operations.

The Canada Green Building Council says its latest Zero Carbon Building–Design Standard (v.03) demonstrates “a continued commitment to getting more buildings to zero faster”. The document prioritizes reductions in carbon emissions and embodied carbon, says the council, and “encourages energy-efficient design that promotes good grid citizenship”.
