The Bruce II Sports Centre in Channel-Port aux Basques, N.L., is receiving more than $2.9 million to both improve its energy efficiency and add electricity generation. The Government of Canada is spending $2,326,560 on this project through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program, while the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques is contributing $581,640.

Ameresco Inc. is leading an energy efficiency project at Schaeffler Aerospace Canada Inc. (Stratford, Ont.) that aims to generate savings of about 1180 MWh and 29,650 m3 of natural gas, and reduce GHG emissions by 15%. “What’s unique about the project is the significant improvement it will bring to the building’s indoor air quality, comfort, energy efficiency, and cost savings,” said Bob McCullough, president, Ameresco Canada.

Ottawa has launched a new application period for the Low-Carbon Economy Challenge, which will spend up to $170 million to support projects that deploy “proven, low-carbon technologies”. Also known as the Challenge Fund, those technologies could include things such as energy efficiency retrofits, waste diversion, and fuel switching (e.g. renewable energy production, heat pump installations).
