As part of implementing its new energy and water reporting bylaw (1283-2023, under Chapter 367 of Toronto’s Municipal Code), the City of Toronto has opened a reporting link where owners of large buildings are to annually report their energy and water use. This year, the reporting requirement applies to buildings that are 50,000 square feet or larger. (Buildings 10,000 square feet and larger will be required to report in 2025.)

The Canadian Space Agency will undergo two new Greening Government Fund (GGF) projects. Slated to begin this spring, the first project will see CSA perform a life cycle assessment on one of its space projects to gather relevant data on the environmental impacts of space projects contracts. This includes identifying opportunities to reduce embodied carbon and developing solutions for decarbonizing space-related research and development contracts.

Homeowners and renters in the City of Peterborough, Ont., have access to a Home Energy Efficiency Program, courtesy of $8.6 million in funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund. The funding comes from GMF’s Community Efficiency Financing (CEF) program, and consists of a $2.87-million grant and a $5.75-million loan.

Jonathan Wilkinson, announced the federal government will establish a new phase of the Canada Greener Homes Initiative. “The enormous popularity of the first phase of the Canada Greener Homes Grant illustrates Canadians’ desire for their homes to be affordable, comfortable, and sustainable,” said Wilkinson.

Infrastructure Canada says the Dakota Oyate Elder Care Lodge in Manitoba will benefit from energy efficiency and accessibility renovations with over $2.9 million from the federal government’s Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program. Among other things, the funding will go toward the installation of solar panels and an energy-efficient heating system.
