The Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC) invites you to participate in the Fall 2024 public review of proposed changes to the 2020 editions of Canada’s National Model Codes: Building, Fire, Energy for Buildings, and Plumbing. The public review will close at 11:59 pm PT on December 19, 2024, after which comments will no longer be accepted, so don’t delay.

Natural Resources Canada’s Codes Acceleration Fund has launched a second call for applications to access $30 million in funding for projects geared toward accelerating the adoption and implementation of the highest feasible tiers of the national model energy codes (or other high-performance building codes).

Emissions Reduction Alberta will see combined funding of $50 million to launch the Strategic Energy Management for Industry (SEMI) program, which aims to help program participants increase profitability by reducing energy costs, developing internal expertise in energy management, and helping cover the cost of capital retrofits.

In Ontario, municipal office spaces at Greater Sudbury’s city hall are undergoing a transformation to become the Cultural Hub at Tom Davies Square. City council approved plans for the development of the hub in November 2023. The project will involve retrofitting both 200 Brady Street and 199 Larch Street to include a new Central Library, the Art Gallery of Sudbury, and the Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association.

Upgrades to the Chief Big Belly Middle School are underway thanks to $2,906,970 in funding from the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program. Serving students in the Tsuut’ina Nation in Alberta, the 26 year-old school is undertaking important repairs and also being upgraded for energy efficiency and accessibility.
