At its Efficiency in Action Awards, FortisBC recognized nine of British Columbia’s “exceptional energy champions” for their actions aimed at lowering energy use, overall GHG emissions, and operational costs across the commercial and industrial sectors. In all, the winners took advantage of more than $5.6 million in FortisBC energy efficiency rebates.

Back in October, we informed you of Ontario’s energy plan “Affordable energy future”, which promised “a significant expansion of energy efficiency programs on January 1, 2025”. This year, the province announced the launch of those programs—part of a new $10.9-billion, 12-year spend on energy efficiency. “As the demand for electricity continues to rise, we’re giving families and small businesses more ways to save money and energy as we launch the largest energy efficiency program in Canadian history,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification.

The BC Building Code 2024 introduced a maximum design temperature limit of 26 C for a single living space in each dwelling unit to minimize the risk of residents overheating during extreme heat events.
