Accelerate your community energy system with GMF’s funded learning program

The Green Municipal Fund does not want you to miss your chance to apply for the Accelerating community energy systems (CESs) funded learning program, which has a deadline of February 21 (tomorrow!). GMF will fund studies that: identify, evaluate and prioritize opportunity areas for low-carbon CESs such as renewable energy, and district heating and cooling systems, and assess and develop mechanisms to support implementation. These studies are intended to lay the groundwork for more focused work on a CES initiative, such as developing a business case, conducting a feasibility study, or implementing a capital project.

Air quality and energy efficiency improvements coming to Watson Lake municipal buildings

Several municipal buildings in Watson Lake, Yukon, will soon enjoy better air handling, thanks to $2,452,000 in federal funding. “This essential investment will not only enhance the energy efficiency of our buildings but also significantly improve air quality and comfort for our residents,” said Mayor Lauren Hanchar.

Markham’s “Battle of the Buildings” energy efficiency competition – a GMF case study

The City of Markham, Ont., undertook a “Battle of the Buildings” from 2015-2018 to encourage municipal facility staff and users to reduce electricity consumption through low- and no-cost operational and behavioural changes while raising awareness of the benefits of energy efficiency. A case study published by Green Municipal Fund (GMF) shows how the city saved over 700,000 kWh and achieved an electricity cost savings of $100,000 in the final year of the competition. The competition initially focused on large community centres, then expanded to both large and small community centres, as well as administrative facilities. » Read more
