New user’s guide for housing and small buildings introduces energy performance tiers

A new “Illustrated user’s guide, NBC 2020: Part 9 of Division B, Housing and Small Buildings” is now available from National Research Council Canada (NRC). Issued by the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes, the guide is designed to help builders and designers understand the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) 2020 as it applies to housing and small buildings, providing explanations of the principles and rationale behind the Part 9 provisions.


Saskatchewan pursues energy efficiency with over $30M from carbon pricing fund

Ottawa announced funding of over $256.7 million from the Output-Based Pricing System Proceeds Fund for clean electricity and grid modernization projects across Saskatchewan. Of these, two projects focus on energy efficiency: Demand-side management and demand-response program; and Northern Indigenous retrofit and new construction housing program.


Federal funding of $2.4M boosts The Island’s adoption of higher-performance energy codes

The Government of Prince Edward Island is receiving $2.4 million in federal funding to adopt higher performance tiers of the 2020 national model energy codes of Canada. Natural Resources Canada is providing this funding through its Codes Acceleration Fund which, said Prince Edward Island’s Hon. Gilles Arsenault, “will help the Island construction industry better prepare for advances in building design and construction methods”.
