EcoGrid Renewables Inc. reports that Schütz Container Systems facility in Belleville will soon host Ontario’s largest rooftop solar installation. With it, the facility will offset over 45% of its electricity usage and reduce annual emissions by 489.6 tonnes CO2e. Plant manager Theo Pornalis says Schütz places a strong focus on the use of renewable energies “as a core element of our sustainability program”.

The construction of facilities for keeping things refrigerated across Canada continues unabated. From the outside, a cold storage warehouse often looks like a simple, non-descript box. On the inside, it is a sophisticated conglomeration of racking, lighting and, especially, the cooling system. “And that cooling system is not just an energy hog,” says Stan Wachon. “It also demands power consistency.”

NB Power is partnering with the federal government to co-deliver the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) program in New Brunswick. Under the program, low- to median-income households that heat their home with oil can apply through the NB Power website to receive coordinated grants that fully cover the cost of the average oil to heat pump conversion.
