April 23, 2025 - Frost & Sullivan has named Siemens the 2024 Global Company of the Year for its strong overall performance in the data centre infrastructure solutions industry. Among the company’s initiatives are heat reuse solutions that capture and repurpose excess heat, reducing a data centre’s energy consumption and enhancing sustainability.

Carleton University is receiving $1.6 million in federal funding to replace a natural gas steam boiler with an electric one in the university’s central heating plant. “We are grateful to our federal government partners for their ongoing support in advancing our sustainability goals and their commitment to reducing greenhouse gases,” said president Wisdom Tettey.

The Maritime Sikh Society in Halifax is pleased that its application to the federal Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program was accepted. “This is a grant that will allow the installation of solar panels on the 10 Parkhill Road site, resulting in net zero electricity costs [...] for the next 25 to 35 years,” writes the organization.

As part of a broader reorganization, sources tell Reuters that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to end the Energy Star program, which has been certifying the energy efficiency of appliances, equipment and more for more than three decades. Meanwhile, the Energy Star name and symbol—registered in Canada by the U.S. EPA—are administered and promoted by Natural Resources Canada. Energy Manager Canada reached out to NRCan to learn how proposed changes in the U.S. could affect Energy Star Canada.

ECO Canada, in collaboration with the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHGMI), launched a professional certification designed to equip individuals with the expertise they need to lead in the field of GHG management. Set to launch this fall, the EP(GHG) will be a globally recognized designation that demonstrates a person’s proficiency in GHG accounting, reporting, analysis, and verification.

The 1‑100 Energy Star score provides a quick reference that can help you assess how efficiently your building uses energy relative to similar buildings.

The DALI Alliance and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) are collaborating to advance “the development, adoption, and harmonization of educational initiatives around global lighting standards”. The Alliance is the global industry organization for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface lighting control. Established in 1906, IES is a technical and educational authority on illumination.
