Canadian family owned business announces the acquisition of Novatech

The Gendreau family, Canadian owners of Garaga Inc., a North American manufacturer of garage doors, announces the acquisition of Novatech Group Inc. The closing of the investor financing and purchase transaction is scheduled for May 27, 2024, and remains subject to the fulfillment of certain closing conditions, including final documentation.


CBHCC invites public to review building codes

The Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC) is inviting the public to participate in its next public review of proposed changes to the 2020 editions of the National Model Codes. The public review will run from May 27 to July 29, 2024.


NRCan considers labeling manufactured fenestration products

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is considering labeling and reporting requirement for manufactured fenestration products. This could potentially mean windows and doors could not be manufactured in one province and sold in another without a federally approved label.


FGIA releases 2024 market studies

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has released the FGIA 2024/2025 Study of the U.S. Market for Windows, Doors and Skylights. This bi-annual report delivers information on residential and non-residential market trends and product relationships for both residential and non-residential fenestration products.


Statistics Canada releases building permits March 2024

According to Statistics Canada, the total value of building permits in Canada decreased 11.7 per cent to $10.5 billion in March. Construction intentions in the non-residential component declined 16.7 per cent to $4.0 billion, while the residential sector decreased by 8.3 per cent to $6.5 billion.
