The Ontario government has announced the new Home Renovation Savings Program. It will launch on Jan. 28 and offer rebates of up to 30 percent for home energy efficiency renovations and improvements, including new windows, doors, insulation, air sealing, smart thermostats, and heat pumps, as well as rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems for people who want to generate and store energy at home The programs are part of a new $10.9 billion, 12-year investment in energy efficiency. Progress on building more homes. Much of this is not new and represents a recommitment to measures introduced in the 2024 budget. Building and repairing homes across the country through the $55 billion Apartment Construction Loan Program and the $15 billion Affordable Housing Fund. Providing at least $100 million in low-cost financing to help build homes on top of existing businesses and retailers. Fully utilizing the additional $20 billion issuance of Canada Mortgage Bonds to build 30,000 more rental apartments.

AAMA 320-24, Guidelines for Quality Welding, Bonding, Manufacturing and Ventilation of Thermoplastic (PVC) Extrusion Based Fenestration Products, an FGIA document, is now available for purchase in the FGIA online store.

The six-month trend in housing starts was flat (-0.3%) in November at 243,268 units, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend measure is a six-month moving average of the seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of total housing starts for all areas in Canada. The total monthly SAAR of housing starts for all areas in Canada increased 8% in November (262,443 units) compared to October (242,207 units).

There was a new person at the Fenestration Canada Spring Conference in Kananaskis, Alta., this year. Jennifer Lortie, director of residential sales for Fabelta, lit up the room in several education sessions with her passionate opinions and insightful observations, all informed by an obviously deep knowledge of fenestration manufacturing and standards.

Fenestration Manitoba held its first gathering as a chapter of Fenestration Canada at the Prairies Edge restaurant in Winnipeg on Dec. 10. FenCan technical director Terry Adamson gave a presentation. Zhen Liu from Silex Windows and Sean Kapusta from Hi-Tech Energy Windows are co-chairing the chapter. John Zadro from OmniGlass is a representative on the board of Fenestration Canada Gord Seier of AGM Glass Fabricators committed to promote Manitoba manufactures and suppliers becoming members of Fenestration Canada.
