Last year Fire Fighting in Canada hosted a virtual summit on climate change, a challenge fire departments are facing in their response capacity to large scale events. This year’s theme focuses on a different but no less critical kind of change, and that’s the rapid fire evolution of fire apparatus alongside a decline in the number of people trained to repair them.
Every fire department has a fire truck. If a fire truck attends an incident, fails, and wasn’t properly maintained or maintained by the correctly certified people, there is a tremendous liability concern in addition to a threat to the safety of the firefighters.
There is a need for training and mentorship to address the specialized knowledge needed to fix today’s complex apparatus. Electric fire trucks, and electric vehicles as party of the emergency response team, are becoming a reality for municipalities.
Join Fire Fighting in Canada’s 2023 Virtual Summit on Feb. 23 at 11:00 am EST for a conversation and presentations pertinent to the rapidly changing world of fleet and gear maintenance.
