The Hamilton Fire Department says the blaze was “well involved” when firefighters arrived, with heavy smoke billowing out of the front of the house and flames visible at the rear. Numerous bystanders had rushed into the burning home to offer help, and even encouraged one of the trapped tenants to jump from an upper-storey window to escape the fire.
