Mayor Christian Provenzano of Sault, Ste. Marie, Ont., says he will become more involved in the ongoing feud between city administration and the union representing Sault Ste. Marie firefighters. Provenzano made the statement immediately prior to council voting on a motion seeking to have city staff report on the feasibility and cost of initiating a comprehensive risk assessment in 2017 – a full year earlier than planned.

Windsor’s fire service has had more injuries related to fires than 14 other municipalities in Canada, according to a survey of figures compiled over the past three years. Statistics released by Municipal Benchmarking Network Canada show that Windsor also had a slower response time and has seen more structural damage in fires.
