An inquest date has been set to probe further into the deaths of two firefighters killed during training exercises. Dr. Rick Mann, regional supervising coroner for West Region in London, Ont., announced the inquest will begin on May 9 to investigate the deaths of Adam Brunt, a firefighting student at Durham College, and Gary Kendall, a volunteer firefighter from Point Edward.

In southern Alberta, the Gleichen RCMP and Siksika Nation Fire and Rescue are on the hunt for a stolen fire truck. RCMP said the truck was stolen on Sunday from outside the community’s fire hall.

Ontario MPPs have passed a private member's bill named after two firefighters killed in a roof collapse in Listowel, Ont., in 2011. The Rea and Walter Act is aimed at protecting firefighters who are fighting fires in buildings that contain lightweight material. The act will ensure that buildings constructed of lightweight materials are clearly marked.

Kingsville, Ont., has named Chuck Parsons as the town’s new fire chief. Parsons, the current chief in Leamington, Ont., starts in Kingsville on April 26. Parsons replaces former chief Bob Kissner, who retired in March. Kissner is charged with several sex offences.

The City of Montreal has appointed Bruno Lachance as the new chief of its fire department. Lachance has been with the Montreal fire department for 33 years and has worked as the assistant director of the department since February 2016.
