Small businesses that have been affected by wildfires will receive emergency grants from British Columbia’s provincial government as dry weather extends the fire risk. Forests Minister Doug Donaldson told The Canadian Press that small businesses, First Nations, and not-for-profit organizations that have been under evacuation orders or alerts are eligible for a $1,500 grant from the Canadian Red Cross.

A Richmond, B.C., firefighter was injured while crews attacked a fire at a local wharf on Saturday evening. Smoke was reported at the Stevetson Wharf around 5:30 p.m. The Steveston Harbour Authority told CTV News the fire started on a commercial dock and spread to a storage locker shed. There were no injuries to the public but one firefighter was taken to hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A house fire in Campbell River, B.C., has left a woman in her 60s dead. Campbell River Fire Department crews were called to the two-storey home around 6 a.m., Tuesday. The house, along with four vehicles, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene. Fire Chief Ian Baikie told CHEK News that propane tanks were involved in the fire.

An elderly woman was transported to hospital Tuesday morning after an apartment fire in Toronto's east end. Toronto Fire Services District Chief Stephan Powell told CP24 the fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, which was located in a unit on the 17th floor.

Smoke from a wildfire in central Manitoba has forced an evacuation near Poplar River First Nation, about 350 kilometres north of Winnipeg. According to the Canadian Red Cross, First Nation officials and the federal government decided that community members whose health may be impacted by the smoke should leave their homes immediately. More than 250 people were evacuated as of Friday.

The only grocery store in Bissett, Man., has been destroyed by fire. Doug McPherson, the deputy mayor of the small northeastern Manitoba community, who is also a firefighter, told The Canadian Press that the fire at Wynne's Place broke out around 2:30 a.m., Thursday morning.
