Calgary crews rescue police from river

Firefighters rescued four people from Calgary’s Bow River after a police boat capsized on Sunday afternoon. Police told The Calgary Herald fire crews were called to respond to Harvie Passage just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday. According to police, two civilians and two officers were on board the Calgary Police Service marine unit boat for a ride-along when the engine malfunctioned and the boat flipped.


Niagara-on-the-Lake supports two-hatters

The town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., is showing its support for two-hatter firefighters by making a donation to the Association of Ontario Municipalities (AMO) to help cover legal costs. Last week, council approved the $2,000 donation to aid volunteer firefighters who are being charged by the union. The town is asking the AMO to establish a fund to assist two-hatters in other Ontario communities.


Four-alarm fire sends three Montreal firefighters to hospital

Montreal firefighters were called to a four-alarm fire at a condominium complex in the Pierrefonds around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Operations Chief Martin Galarneau told CTV News at least 75 firefighters worked to extinguish the flames. Three firefighters were sent to hospital after suffering heat stroke.

Winnipeg firefighter charged with sexual assault

A Winnipeg firefighter has been arrested after three girls accused him of incidents of sexual abuse, which span the past 16 years. The girls were aged 12 to 18 years old at the time of the alleged incidents. Apartment fire leaves dozens homeless

Police are investigating a suspicious fire that damaged a two-storey apartment building in Dartmouth, N.S., leaving about a dozen tenants homeless early Sunday morning. No injuries were reported, but some residents were treated for smoke inhalation.
