Firefighter Career Expo and Training Day set for Sept. 28

Canadian Firefighter magazine will host its Training Day and Career Expo at the Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute (FESTI) in Mississauga, Ont., on Sept. 28. Career Expo, sponsored by FESTI, is a full day of sessions, networks and vendors tailored for recruits looking to get hired or for those considering becoming a firefighter. Training Day, sponsored by Fort Garry Fire Trucks and Target Solutions, offers free training to firefighters in a variety of areas, including auto extrication, live fire rescue, and LPG incident mitigation.


A B.C. search and rescue is looking for new members

The Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) says it is looking for people who have a strong outdoor recreation skill set, are reasonably fit, willing to learn, and can work in a team environment.


Oshawa, Ontario union pushes for construction changes

Earlier this summer an under-construction, multi-unit building caught fire in Oshawa, Ont. Now the local fire service and the Oshawa Professional Firefighters Association are pushing for safety changes at construction sites for wood-frame buildings.
