CAFC announces the award winning chiefs of the year

The Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) and the Fire Underwriters Survey of Canada named the winners of the Fire Chief of the Year Awards during Virtually Fire Rescue Canada's 2020 Celebration of Excellence. The awards went to Fire Chief Ken McMullen of Red Deer Fire and Emergency Services (Career) and Fire Chief Randy Schroeder, Town of Mayerthorpe Fire Department (Volunteer).


How weather, COVID-19 spared Canada from wildfires like those in the United States

Canada has experienced a lower than average number of wildfires this year thanks in part to COVID-19 restrictions, as well as cooler temperatures and wetter conditions compared to the United States, where devastating and record-setting wildfires have been raging across large swaths of the west coast this year.


Saskatoon assistant fire chief says arson count likely to double in 2020

Saskatoon assistant fire chief Yvonne Raymer said she expects there will be twice as many deliberately-set fires in the city in 2020 as there was last year.
