North Battleford approves new contract with firefighters

The City of North Battleford, Sask., has approved a new collective agreement with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1756. The four-year contract, from Jan., 2019 to Dec., 2022, includes a two per cent wage increase for each of the first three years, and a 1.8 per cent increase for the fourth year for a first-class firefighter.


How to get three million people immunized: chief hopes to have it ‘pegged’

Emergency operations chief Matthew Pegg has to figure out how to get three million people immunized. Twice. The work has already begun, with a search for venues in the four corners of the city, near public transit, where thousands of people a day can be immunized for COVID-19 once a vaccine becomes available, all being well, in early 2021.


St. John’s firefighters’ union worried budget cuts will affect safety

Ninety minutes after firefighters in St. John’s found out budget cuts would take one of their two ladder trucks off the road; the department used both trucks to respond to separate fire calls. That’s according to Craig Smith, president of the local chapter of the International Association of Firefighters, and a firefighter with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department.
