Ontario government providing $5 million to help municipal fire services

The Ontario government is providing $5 million in funding to help municipal fire services address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding will is intended to enhance fire safety training across the province and support safety inspection programs to ensure compliance with the Ontario Fire Code.


City of Winnipeg, firefighters’ union move to binding arbitration for new contract

The City of Winnipeg and the union representing its firefighters will be going to binding arbitration to settle on a new collective bargaining agreement. CBC News reports.


No working smoke alarms in fatal Toronto fire: fire marshal’s office

Ontario’s Fire Marshal has determined there were no working smoke alarms in the tragic house fire that killed four people, including a seven-year-old boy, in Toronto’s east-end earlier this year. CP24 reports.

Thermal imaging quick tips: Part 2

At a recent training event, students participated in a session on primary search with a thermal imager (TI). The session did not include live fire, so everything was the same temperature. To provide “energy” to the “victims,” hand/toe warmers were used and taped to mannequins. This simple technique helped to highlight the “victims” against the cool room.
