The Ontario government is providing $5 million in funding to help municipal fire services address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. At a recent training event, students participated in a session on primary search with a thermal imager (TI). The session did not include live fire, so everything was the same temperature. To provide “energy” to the “victims,” hand/toe warmers were used and taped to mannequins. This simple technique helped to highlight the “victims” against the cool room. Keep in mind when using this technique, that if this had been a real fire, the victim may not be the warmest object in the room. By Manfred Kihn

The Kelowna Fire Department said a fire in an office at a Kelowna strip mall was contained by the building’s sprinkler system. Firefighters were dispatched to the blaze at the Spall Plaza on Harvey Avenue around 9:45 p.m. Saturday after someone called 911 to report a fire, the fire department said. Global News reports.
