The municipality of Brockton in Ontario and Bruce Power are teaming up to offer training to local volunteer firefighters through the new Brockton Regional Fire Training Centre. Some of the courses the fire training centre will offer involve a live fire aspect, which Bruce Power will support through the use of Bruce Power Fire Training Facility.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has donated $5,400 to the Blind River Fire Department in a bid to provide improved firefighter training. The funding will purchase training videos and modules, inspection cameras, digital workstations, and hard-copy literature. Elliot Lake Today reports.

This spring is special time for every volunteer in the Canadian fire service because of the first ever nationwide firefighter count called The Great Canadian Volunteer Firefighter Census. You volunteer in organizations where many decisions and initiatives have been made by governments, associations and the commercial sector that affect the volunteer fire service in our country. A small forest fire has started in the Harrison Mills area, and continues to grow. The B.C. Wildfire Service first listed the fire as 1.5 hectares as of Sunday morning, and its location is 5.5 kilometres up Chehalis Forest Service Road. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and it was discovered in the evening on May 15. Surrey Now-Leader reports.

Smoke could be seen from a scrap metal yard in the city of Kitchener in Ontario for most of Saturday as crews worked to put out a fire that involved oil. Firefighters were first called to Triple M Metal around 7:30 a.m. Officials say the metal and surround oils had caught fire. CTV News reports.
