An $8.8 million investment will upgrade 10 firehalls in British Columbia

On June 17, Ken Hardie, member of Parliament for Fleetwood—Port Kells, on behalf of the Honourable Catherine McKenna, minister of infrastructure and communities, and the Honourable Mike Farnworth, British Columbia’s minister of public safety and solicitor general, announced funding to upgrade 10 fire halls across the province. They were also accompanied by Ron Richert, fire chief for the city of Quesnel.


Sault Fire Services looks to become regional training centre

The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services in Ontario is one step closer to creating a regional training facility in the city. Sault Ste. Marie’s city council authorized the fire department to continue talks with the province to bring a regional facility to Algoma, after the Ontario Fire College facility in Gravenhurst shuttered its doors in March. CTV News reports.


Whitehorse officially opens new fire hall

The new fire hall in Whitehorse, which has a $3.8 million price tag, officially opened on Thursday. Fire Hall #1, which firefighters have already settled into, is a two-storey building with three vehicle bays and room for equipment and firefighting gear. It also includes living space with three dorm rooms and some amenities like a shower and exercise equipment. CBC News reports.

Thunder Bay firefighters rescue semi-conscious person from waterway

Officials with Thunder Bay’s fire department say one person has been rescued after being found floating in a local waterway. Emergency responders were called to the area of the Thunder Centre along the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway in Ontario at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday, where an individual was face-up in the water, according to a media release.
