With snow starting to fly across Western Canada, marking the end to this year’s wildfire season, let’s compare how the past year’s fires to previous years.


Rivalry between Alberta police and firefighters ignites with upcoming charity hockey game

On Nov. 26, the RCMP and Airdrie firefighters in Alberta will be facing off in the hockey rink for the annual Sirens Charity Hockey game. Donations of goods, as well as money, will be accepted on behalf of the Airdrie 1st Club’s Christmas Hamper Program.


Markham Fire & Emergency Services receives Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada grant

In Ontario, the Markham Fire and Emergency Services (MFES) has receive a grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada in the amount of $19,546. The grant will be used to wrap six Markham Fire station bay doors with fire safety messaging.


Call for service adds to Salmon Arm students’ excitement as fire chiefs for a day

On Oct. 28, kindergarten to Grade 5 students from schools throughout Salmon Arm, B.C., were given the opportunity to try on turnout gear, operate a fire hose to knock out a pretend fire, check out the view from the Salmon Arm Fire Department’s new Tower 3 fire truck, and enjoy lunch with city firefighters for the Fire Chief for a Day event.
