New air tankers from Quebec en route to Sask. to battle wildfires

New air tankers will join the fleet in Saskatchewan to help fight the wildfires burning throughout the province’s north. Marlo Pritchard, Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) president and fire commissioner, said the government of Quebec provided two CL415 amphibious tankers to complement the current aerial tanker support.

OAFC rings in May with annual conference and trade show

The Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC) held its annual conference and trade show from May 4 to 6 at the International Centre. Over 300 people attended, and more than 160 booths spanned the 200,000 sq. ft. trade show floor.

Nova Scotia fire marshal’s office faces intense scrutiny over damning report

Nova Scotia’s fire marshal faced tough questions Wednesday about a recent report that found his office was putting the public at risk by failing to properly manage fire safety inspections. Douglas MacKenzie appeared before the legislature’s public accounts committee to explain why the fire marshal’s office had failed to act on repeated warnings from the auditor general about its lack of appropriate oversight going back to 2001.
