Edmonton Fire to respond to ‘urgent’ medical calls only

Edmonton’s fire department says it’s reducing its call burden by only responding to urgent medical needs as part of a plan to cut down the number of firefighters going to medical-related calls. The Edmonton Journal reports.


Ontario to give out $5,000 bonuses to wildland firefighters

Ontario plans to give front-line wildland firefighters and pilots a $5,000 bonus and make 100 of those jobs permanent in an effort to recruit and retain more workers.


Pemberton to get new fire training centre worth $450,000

Firefighters in Pemberton could soon have their own live fire training building. At a recent Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) board meeting, directors approved allocating up to $110,000 for the project, which comes with an expected total price tag of about $450,000. The remaining $340,000 has been provided through a provincial grant through the Village of Pemberton (VOP).
