Calgary debuts multi-service hub featuring new fire station, housing, and green space

The City of Calgary has officially opened the new Varsity Multi-Service Centre, a community hub designed to enhance emergency response, provide new housing, and offer public green space in the Varsity neighbourhood and surrounding areas.


Five more types of cancer added under presumptive coverage for firefighters

The provincial government of P.E.I. has expanded presumptive cancer coverage for firefighters to include five additional types of cancer. Under the Workers Compensation Act, presumptive cancer coverage means that it is presumed that a primary cancer for a fire inspector or firefighter is work related, unless proven to the contrary. Eligible firefighters include fire inspectors, paid firefighters and volunteer firefighters who are members of a fire department or fire brigade.


Canadian IAFF members recognized as champions of mental health

A leading organization that supports first responder mental health research and initiatives in Canada has recognized three IAFF members as champions of mental health.
