Cultured meat has the potential to change our relationship with animal proteins, but change won’t come easily. Elon Musk understood a long time ago that to give the electric car its proper due and push aside the powerful car dealership cartels, the influence of the oil industry and the incredible economic clout of car manufacturers, he needed to build a case for the e-car with the consumer, and he did. If lab-grown food is ever to become a thing, the industry will need its own Elon Musk.

Health Canada intends to update the requirements for sugar-free claims with the goal of providing more flexibility. It proposes to bundle the sugar-free claim with the requirement of a food being “low in calories”. The result is that more foods could be claimed as “sugar-free.” The change also acknowledges the tight relationship of sugar-free claims to calorie management.
