The Canadian Grapevine Certification Network is collaborating with Brock University, Genome Canada and several other partners to provide Canadian grape growers with certified virus-free grapevine planting material. This initiative will use high-throughput sequencing as a diagnostic tool to detect multiple viruses in grapevines, reducing the wait time for grapevines from three years to one year.

Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has completed their re-evaluation of linuron herbicide, determining that continued registration of some products is acceptable. Linuron will still be registered for carrots, parsnip, potato, asparagus and shelterbelts, but registration for other crops has been cancelled immediately or with an extended phase-out schedule.
