Ontario fruit and vegetable updates – 5/26

It's been a wet week for many counties across Ontario. The vegetable and fruit specialists with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA) have released new crop updates for Ontario fruits and vegetables.


Ontario provincial budget for 2025 shows support for farmers and rural communities

Minister of finance Peter Bethlenfalvy released the 2025 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario on May 15. With the continued threat of U.S. tariffs and trade uncertainty, this new budget outlines plans to build more resiliency within the Ontario economy by increasing competitiveness in the market, creating jobs, doing more business in the G7 and investing in other essential services.


Vayantis seed treatment label expanded to included ginseng and other crops

A label expansion for Vayantis seed treatment has recently been approved by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency. This expansion includes the addition of labelled control for seed rot and pre-emergence damping-off, caused by Pythium spp., in ginseng and other specialty crops.
