Potted hydrangea is just one of the many retail-ready crops grown at the award-winning, Van Belle Nursery in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Hydrangea requires a minimum light level of 12 mols per day. However, light levels are insufficient and unpredictable due to the nursery’s location, which is why, after evaluating different lighting options, Van Belle Nursery decided to install Philips LED toplighting over an approximate one-acre zone.
With consistent and controlled delivery of light in a spectrum that optimized photosynthesis, Van Belle recognized the following benefits:
• Faster crop cycle by 2-3 weeks • Reduced application of PGRs by 10% • Improved flower coloration and • More predictable and precise scheduling • Compact growth without PGR
Hear what Pablo Costa, Van Belle Nursery Operations Manager, said about growing under Philips LED toplighting grow lights.
