Biological control in greenhouse ornamental crops has become more mainstream in the past 10 years and one of the crops that has led the way has been cut gerbera. Gerbera grown for cut flowers has many qualities that make it the poster child for biocontrol in ornamentals: it’s a perennial crop and has a dense, bridging canopy. Plus it has a greater tolerance for pests. The problem? Pests (insects, mites and diseases) love gerbera, too.
