The introduction of a new Private Members Bill by MP Kody Blois is aimed at amending the Feeds Act, the Seeds Act, and the Pest Control Products Act. Bill C-359 is intended to offer a number of advantages that directly address the needs of Canadian growers.

An amendment to Bill C-234, put forward by Senator Dalphond, removes the heating and cooling of agricultural buildings, including greenhouses, from the full carbon pricing exemptions initially encompassed by the bill.

A proposed federal plan to curb plastic packaging is on a timeline that Canadian fruit and vegetable producers are calling “problematic” and “unrealistic.”


AgSafe announces end-of-season Mental Wellness Debrief sessions for B.C.’s ag producers

Beginning this fall, producers across B.C. will have an opportunity to connect with industry peers through AgSafe’s upcoming virtual Mental Wellness Debrief sessions. The debrief sessions are offered at no cost to participants and are an opportunity to discuss the challenges and stresses they faced during the season. The sessions will be held on November 28 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm PST and December 5 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm PST.

Tomato growers coming together

Crop-specific community events bring growers from around the world together to not only learn from the operations they visit, but also from each other. Philips horticulture team has been hosting tomato community events annually since 2014 (the 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic, and the 2021 event was hosted virtually). One such event, hosted by the Philips LED team from Signify, was held in March of this year in North America and brought 49 tomato growers from 10 countries together, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czechia, Finland, Hungary, Japan, Latvia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
