Canadian farm gender pay gap still wide but narrowing

A recent Agriculture–Population Linkage study from Statistics Canada, which combines data from the Census of Agriculture and the Census of Population, highlights the trend. In 2020, the gap was nearly equal to the national average for all Canadians aged 16 and over.


Southern Ontario greenhouse boom contributing to algae in Lake Erie

For a couple of decades at the end of the last century, it seemed like the blue-green algae problem in Lake Erie had been solved, or at least managed, thanks to a concerted cross-border effort. As algae reappeared at the turn of the millennium, water quality researchers began noticing additional worrying trends in Essex County waterways with significant greenhouse footprints.


Lakeshore to restart drafting greenhouse rules after current ones deemed too strict

Lakeshore, Ont., will start all over again writing rules around where large-scale greenhouses can go after the province and Essex County said the ones it came up with were too restrictive. Lakeshore spent months debating and getting public opinion to draw up amendments to draw up new rules.
