The town of Saint Lawrence is located on the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland and Labrador. The local economy includes fishing and mining. Interestingly, this town is also known as the Soccer Capital of Canada!

This remote town of 1200 inhabitants is surrounded by the North Atlantic and travel to and from everywhere can be unreliable, slow and frustrating.

When it comes to servicing equipment in these far-flung towns, longevity and reliability are of major importance simply because the cost and hassle of replacing something can be very expensive and time-consuming.

In the case of St Lawrence, the potable water supply for the town comes from underground wells. Traditionally, submersible pumps were installed on steel pipe, but these pipes are subject to internal scaling which is a major driver of increased pumping costs and inefficiencies. Steel pipe is also subject to corrosion, which means they must be replaced often.

Dennis Rowsell of Electric Motor & Pump in St John, NL knows Boreline FlexiRiser, a high-performance pipe that replaces the rigid pipes used with submersible pumps. Dennis introduced this to the city because this is the long-term solution for their problems.

On top of that he added, “Boreline is very easy and simple to work with and we were able to install the well within a couple of hours.”

“It was a miracle” Dennis smiles, “that we had one day in January with no snow. We made hay while the sun shined by installing the 100m length of 6” Boreline with the pump and motor when the weather was clear”.

Andrew Broders from Electric Motor & Pump has been selling Boreline FlexiRiser in Newfoundland since early 2020. “The reduced shipping costs, the durability and the long-term energy savings make it a no brainer for water wells on the island.”
