Ontario seeks to extend the current moratorium on water bottling permits

The Ontario government proposes to extend the current moratorium on new or increased permits to take groundwater to produce bottled water for up to six months, to April 1, 2021.

Largest-ever study of glacial lakes shows dramatic increases in volume since 1990: study

A new study led by a University of Calgary researcher, with collaborators from governments and universities in Canada, the United States and United Kingdom, uses satellite data from NASA and Google Earth Engine to analyze all of the world’s glacial lakes. Published in Nature Climate Change, it is the largest-ever study of glacial lakes in terms of geographic scope.

Some P.E.I. farmers are calling for government to lift its moratorium on high-capacity agricultural wells to allow more irrigation as the province enters “a near-crisis situation” in terms of dryness, said the executive director of the P.E.I. Federation of Agriculture. CBC News reports.
