MIT student invents new kind of centrifugal pump: ‘variable volute’

Hilary Johnson, an MIT doctoral student, who just won the Lemelson-MIT Student Prize, has invented a new kind of centrifugal pump (called a “variable volute” pump) that does something engineering experts previously thought was impossible – it physically adjusts to more efficiently move water based on immediate need, resulting in energy and cost savings.


Manitoba livestock producers given funding options to construct wells, develop permanent pipelines and other means to combat dry conditions

Manitoba livestock producers who have been affected by dry conditions on pasture can apply for funding to support water source development under Ag Action Manitoba, including construction of new or rehabilitating existing wells or dugouts.


Additional funding supports immediate irrigation expansion in Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan government has changed the Irrigation Development Program to allow livestock producers to access up to $500,000 per applicant to finance irrigation infrastructure.
