A former RCAF pilot, Hank Sands described himself as an "ex-military jet jockey" when he first began applying for a civilian job as a helicopter pilot. He landed his first job with Okanagan Helicopters, and trained in Kamloops and the Kootenays where he was trained on Bell 47 G2 and Hiller 12 E choppers.
The stories in A Wolf’s Moon: A Helicopter Pilot’s Story span several decades and relate Hank’s encounters with a host of northern characters, from diamond drillers and geologists to forestry personnel and biologists.
