A Wolf’s Moon

A former RCAF pilot, Hank Sands described himself as an “ex-military jet jockey” when he first began applying for a civilian job as a helicopter pilot. He landed his first job with Okanagan Helicopters, and trained in Kamloops and the Kootenays where he was trained on Bell 47 G2 and Hiller 12 E choppers. Hank went on to become an experienced pilot and spent much of his time in northern BC and later on Vancouver Island.

The stories in A Wolf’s Moon span several decades and relate Hank’s encounters with a host of northern characters, from diamond drillers and geologists to forestry personnel and biologists. He spent time flying diamond drilling crews and bosses into remote wilderness areas, skimming high alpine meadows and climbing the perilous windy slopes of mountain passes to land on snow covered mountain tops or on crudely constructed log platforms along low lying lakes and streams. >> Order now
