A Message from Hatchery International

Here's what we're working on for our next issue...

Hatchery profile: The new "green" fish
A new catfish hatchery in the Philippines, which the owners refer to as the "new green fish," promises to make the species more accessible in the Philippines.

A hatchery solution
Hatchery production of mussel seed may add reliability to business models for new and existing mussel farmers. In addition to reliable seed production, hatchery-reared mussels can be bred selectively to enhance genetic characteristics.

No water wasted
The Cape Nordic Corporation's land-based fish farm project is expanding its facility in Cape Town, South Africa, with another sustainable initiative. In addition to producing trout and, eventually, salmon, the company now plans to utilise wastewater from the fish to produce oysters.

Disease-resistant salmon
A new £3.5 million research and development project in Scotland hopes to potentially breed salmon with enhanced resilience to gill infections and other health issues, such as sea lice.
