A study cleared a commercial probiotic containing Ruminococcus Flavefaciens in Nile tilapia fingerlings. Zado, manufactured in Egypt, could be used as a safe alternative for improving hematologic, immune, antioxidants and growth profiles, according to authors, Mohamed Adbel Gayed et al. Fish fed with enriched diets had significantly increased immunity, improved hematologic and leukocytic readings, and biochemical parameters.

The expansion of Grieg Seafood BC Ltd.’s (Grieg’s) Gold River Hatchery project, known as the RAS 34 Project, is coming close to completion, and the team celebrated reaching the first three milestones signaling the end of the project is near, in mid-February. Water has been added to the six tanks in the RAS 34 building, which will allow the team to begin to working with the system to create the necessary healthy bacteria and water conditions required to support the growth of up to four million smolts.

Aa recent study of the genetic profiles from free-choice breeding among wild and hatchery Coho salmon in a natural context, published in the journal, Integrative Organismal Biology, has revealed some key differences in how the two types of fish form mating pairs. AquaMaof Aquaculture Technologies has signed its first contract in Chile with Atacama Yellowtail SpA (AYT), for the cultivation and production of 900 tonnes of yellowtail kingfish ( Tongo Bay, located in the Coquimbo Region. The project’s initial investment was US$25 million, with construction of the facility expected to begin during the second half of 2022, delivering the first harvests to the market in Q4 of 2024.
