Global fish feed manufacturer BioMar Group has joined a growing list companies that are suspending commercial activities in Russia following President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine. The trade ban has been approved by the company’s board, and BioMar has begun the process of closing all activities, evaluating commitments and goods in transit in the supply chain on a case by case basis.

Loch Long Salmon (LLS) in Scotland is on course to create the country’s first semi-closed production unit with follow-up ambitions to build four more semi-closed units over the next five years. The development is a joint venture operation between Simply Blue Aquaculture, Trimara Services, and Golden Acre Foods, and has already been presented to local authority planners as a major step forward for environmental stewardship and animal welfare in relation to Scottish aquaculture.

The expansion of Grieg Seafood BC Ltd.’s (Grieg’s) Gold River Hatchery project, known as the RAS 34 Project, is coming close to completion, and the team celebrated reaching the first three milestones signaling the end of the project is near, in mid-February. Water has been added to the six tanks in the RAS 34 building, which will allow the team to begin to working with the system to create the necessary healthy bacteria and water conditions required to support the growth of up to four million smolts.
