Bakkafrost plans second hatchery in Scotland

Faroese-based salmon producer Bakkafrost has secured land for the construction of its second large hatchery in Scotland. The company also announced that ongoing expansion of its Applecross hatchery.

Benchmark Genetics opens new incubation facility in Iceland

On Aug. 23, Svandís Svavarsdóttir, the minister of Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries, cut the ribbon on the new facility with Dr. Jónas Jónasson, the CEO of Benchmark Genetics Iceland. More than 100 employees and industry partners attended the opening.

First commercial sea cucumber hatchery opens in Papua New Guinea

The new Sand fish hatchery officially opened on Aug. 19 as part of the West New Britain provincial government’s Fin Fisheries project. The sea cucumber hatchery will become a hub where sea cucumbers will be bred and some will be for local fish farmers to grow their own stock.
