Ontario has plans to invest up to $900 million over four years for energy retrofits in the form of grants to social housing apartments and rebates for residential multi-tenant buildings. As part of the Climate Change Action Plan, which was released June 8, the province has plans to invest up to $500 million to retrofit social housing apartments with energy efficient and renewable energy technologies.

SaskPower is offering a rebate to end users for the purchase of qualified, energy efficient, commercial refrigeration products. Rebates can cover up to 50 per cent of the purchase price.

Nine buildings that demonstrate sustainable building from across the country were recognized at the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) 2016 Canada Green Building Awards on June 6. The event was held at the Fairmont Royal York hotel in Toronto, ON.

The Alberta government is reminding Albertans that the transition period for voluntary application of the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB) 2011 ends on November 1, 2016. Additionally, Section 9.36. Alberta Building Code (ABC) 2014 for housing and small buildings, ends on the same date.

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) celebrated a century of innovation on June 6. “The National Research Council began on June 6, 1916, as a modest committee of university and industry leaders intent on mobilizing science and technology in the national interest,” said Tom Jenkins, chairperson of the NRC Council. “Today, the NRC is a world leader among research and technology organizations and that initial vision has paid off remarkably.”
