It’s been about a year since the innovative FLAIROP project (Federated Learning for Robot Picking) ended, a strong success and presenting exciting possibilities for future improvement in automated manufacturing environments and other scenarios. The project (involving academic institutions in Canada and Germany) has broken new ground in its creation of a way to allow collaborative machine learning across companies, benefiting all while at the same time protecting each participant’s sensitive data about line speed, bin object characteristics and so on.
